This was a great hike! First of the season. Blisters all over my ankles (I will wear better boots/socks next time. Cotton is NOT your friend people.) 64 degrees and sunny the entire day. 5.5 miles round trip because I took a wrong turn at Albequerqe and added about .4 to my trip. Beautiful views that the iPotato doesn’t do justice. Took the dog too. He’s tired.

Aforementioned pup (Odie) pictured here. Not tired at all.

Stats above of the trek. That little dog leg around the 4 mile marker is where I took the wrong turn. Worth it. Feel sore/great today! It’s hiking season folks. Get out there and get your nature on!

Awesome, I can’t wait for the weather to get a little nicer and can get out as well.

I was never a nature kind of guy as a youngin but now I crave the outdoors in the form of hiking, kayaking etc. It’s such a high. What part of the world do you live in? Hope it warms up soon!

All my life for me. I’m in NJ, we had some nice days but its pretty dreary and miserable now.

Nice, I have been wanting to get out for a weekend of backpacking for months. I don’t even mind going in the winter, but I could never seem to get my schedule to cooperate this year. A nice early spring trip would be perfect.

I’ve done an overnight backpacking trip there, awesome hiking spot.

So I hear. Hopefully this is the last cold blast for a while.

It’s worth it. The blisters are a bit much (tho I think I know how to mitigate them next time) but well worth the hike. Beautiful nature and animal life.

Are you still in the area? I’d be happy to meet up sometime! Always looking for more folks to hang with (much to my Gf’s chagrin). It’s so beautiful up there!

At the time I was living in Wilmington. I am in Raleigh now, so not super close but a little closer.

I’ve been to Washington! Briefly to do a dealer swap with the local dealership there. Chevrolet. Nice country scenery there too! Morrow is about an hour from where I currently am.

I am very susceptible to blisters when I hike, especially with a pack. Wearing a thin liner sock and a thicker hiking sock (no cotton) helps a lot, the liner sock will slide on the outer sock instead of your foot feeling the friction. If you have sweaty feet (like I do) taking your boots off when you stop for a break and letting my feet/socks dry a bit helps a ton too.

Wrightsock makes some trick double-layer socks that work awesome, but they’re a little pricey. Merino wool is my favorite material for socks. Nylon and polyester work well, too but they stink up fast.

Jealous, I have been wanting to get back out on a hike for weeks now but the weather hasn’t cooperated. Recently I discovered a state Park (PA) local to me is perfect for a three day backpacking trip, which will be my first backpack camping. I plan on doing smaller loops and overnight trips before trying to conquer the whole 36 miles over three days. The state park is where oil was first successfully extracted from the ground, and where many boomtowns and drill sites popped up quickly, and left just as quick. The whole park is loaded with ruins of these boomtowns. I’ve been slowly acquiring gear and excitement.

Thanks for the tips on socks! I’m going to try to go again this Sunday too. But with better socks on board.

And now I’m jealous of that park! Haha. Maybe I will have to make a pilgrimage to PA someday!

One more tip I forgot to mention before - if you start feeling “hot spots” on your feet, stop and apply some Moleskin (or similar - duct tape actually works pretty well too) to protect the spot before it turns into a blister. Not such a big deal on a day hike, but if you’re 20-30 miles into the backcountry on a multi-day backpacking trip, you definitely have to protect your feet or you’ll be miserable the whole time.

That’s what I ran into the other day. But I pushed through because I am an idiot and I just wanted to complete what I set out to complete. Injuries and pain be damned. Thanks for the tips!

PA is truly an incredible state. Love it here. Hit me up if you’re ever in NW PA looking for something to do!
